The teachers and employees belonging to the MPO have demanded a 50 percent dearness allowance of the basic salary. At the same time, they demanded that all educational institutions should be nationalized and that teachers and employees should be given a hundred percent festival allowance. The teachers and staff held a press conference in Naogaon on Friday afternoon stating these demands.
The press conference was held under the banner of the teacher-employee union. Hafizur Rahman, member of the presidium of the Central Committee of the Bangladesh Teachers' Association (BASIS) and president of the Naogaon district committee, gave a written statement at the press conference.
In a written statement, he said, the families of teachers and employees are living inhumane life in the current market of rising commodity prices. Many teachers have been forced to change their profession during the Corona. During the current government, teachers and employees of private educational institutions belonging to MPO have held various programs to demand the privatization of the education system. But the government did not heed any of the demands of the teachers and employees.
He also said that next October 5 is World Teachers' Day. On that day, the teacher-employee union called for a grandstand program in front of the National Press Club to protest against the killing, harassment, and torture of teachers, along with the officialization of the jobs of teachers and employees. All private teachers and employees of the country will participate in this program in solidarity with this demand. We hope that the government will accept the demands of teachers and employees before the announced agitation program.
